Consultant, Student Progress Monitoring Tool – Contract

The Organization

Wayfinder was founded at the Stanford d.school in 2015 and is on a mission to make the leading SEL + Future Ready Skills company for K12 students in the world. In the 2022-2023 school year, Wayfinder will be used by over 500 schools and 250,000 students across the United States and the World. 

The Role

Wayfinder is seeking to contract with an experienced researcher to help create the next generation of our student progress monitoring tool, Waypoints. Waypoints provides educators with a quick check-in tool to monitor student progress against Wayfinder’s Six Core Competencies. We are seeking to partner with a researcher to create the student measures that we include in the next interaction of this tool. We envision that this project will take roughly one month to complete and the final deliverables will include:

  • Question sets that align with each of Wayfinder Six Core Competencies, with roughly 30 questions for each competency
  • A short, external-facing report outlining the research-backing for the measures provided
  • A guidance document for Wayfinder’s staff members that includes any recommendations for building and implementing the tool

Responsibilities 

As a Consultant working on one of Wayfinder’s core products, responsibilities of this role include:

  • Utilize the best available research on student assessments, childhood development, and Social Emotional Learning to create scientifically sound question sets
  • Communicate with designated Wayfinder staff members to create a project plan and monitor progress throughout the duration of the project
  • Maintain a flexible 1-2 hours/week (after the initial launch call) of availability for communications with the designated Wayfinder Staff members, as needed 

Requirements 

Experience 

  • PhD researcher, employed by a major research university 
  • Experience designing student assessments 
  • Fluent in the best available research on childhood development, and Social-Emotional Learning
  • Previous experience consulting with an edtech startup preferred 
  • Strong commitment to Wayfinder’s mission and values 

Compensation

  • Compensation will be mutually agreed upon by both parties
