Account Manager - Midwest

The Organization

What if K-12 education were designed to help all students develop lives of meaning and purpose? Wayfinder was founded at the Stanford d.school to answer this question. Our goal is to double our impact each year for the coming years. Our vision is to become the preeminent future-readiness curriculum company in the world — leading the global movement of purpose, meaning, and belonging-based education worldwide.

What We Value

You’ll be joining a team of incredibly motivated and dedicated staff members committed to living our organization's values. We work collaboratively across teams, and we feel and act like a purpose-driven organization. To the best of our abilities, each person’s role aligns with their own sense of purpose, which feeds into Wayfinder’s larger sense of purpose.

We value equal access, inclusive community, and belonging, and these values are represented in our product, our team, and our school partners.

Product: We develop our learning tools using human-centered design principles. We work with grade-level experts to ensure our curriculum is developmentally appropriate and engaging at all levels. Every Wayfinder lesson is supported by relevant research, prototyped in classrooms, and vetted by teachers over rounds of feedback and iteration. We use Universal Design for Learning principles to give every student an equal opportunity to succeed.

Team: Our team is composed of people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. We intentionally recruit, hire, and work with people of all identities + experiences. We focus on belonging: being connected, accepted, and valued by the people around us.

School Partners: We intentionally target a wide array of educational partners, from traditional to non-traditional, that work with a range of students from different socioeconomic groups. We’ve taught our curriculum in high-need schools in the Bronx, independent schools in Silicon Valley, and after-school programs in San Antonio.

The Role

Wayfinder is looking for a Midwest Mid-Market Account Manager to join our growing team! The Account Manager (AM) owns district partnerships throughout the customer relationship lifecycle, driving successful implementation, engagement, renewal, and long-term partner growth. AMs manage and coordinate communication, implementation strategy, and partner engagement within assigned accounts, ensuring strong implementation outcomes, product adoption, partner satisfaction, and retention. AMs work cross-functionally with teams including Sales, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Support to deliver a seamless customer experience.

This is a high-ownership, fast-paced role that requires strong communication, executive presence, operational organization, and the ability to navigate ambiguity while managing multiple priorities simultaneously. Successful candidates are proactive, relationship-driven, highly organized, and comfortable leading difficult conversations while maintaining strong partner relationships.

Our ideal candidate is based in a Midwest state (AR, CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, LA, MN, MI, MO, ND, NE, OK, SD, TX, WI) and has experience working in K-12 education and/or managing district partnerships within an EdTech startup environment.

We strongly encourage people from traditionally underrepresented populations in tech - such as women, People of Color, People with Disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people, etc - to apply!

Responsibilities

  • This is a sales-focused role with accountability for Gross Revenue Retention (GRR). You will serve as the primary relationship owner for assigned partners while balancing implementation, engagement, renewals, and growth opportunities across your portfolio.
  • You’ll help develop implementation and engagement strategies for incoming partners to reduce time-to-value with the Wayfinder product.
  • You will develop implementation plans specific to each partner to ensure goal alignment, measurable objectives, strong adoption, and long-term success.
  • You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders, including district and school leadership. Lead quarterly business reviews, manage escalations, and continually seek opportunities to drive customer value.
  • You will identify opportunities for cross-sell and expansion while ensuring successful customer renewals.
  • You’ll proactively manage and escalate at-risk customers, employ intervention strategies, and maintain internal visibility around renewal risk and partner health.
  • You’ll partner with Sales to provide consultative pre-sales implementation support and ensure smooth handoffs into onboarding and launch.
  • You’ll develop and maintain expertise across all Wayfinder products and services.
  • You’ll act as a strong customer advocate across all areas of the business, sharing partner feedback internally to improve the customer experience and product implementation.
  • You’ll collaborate across teams to ensure alignment, consistency, operational excellence, and adoption of best practices.
  • You’ll independently manage competing priorities and drive work forward with a high level of ownership and accountability, particularly during peak Back-to-School season.

Requirements

  • Be based in a Midwest state (AR, CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, LA, MN, MI, MO, ND, NE, OK, SD, TX, WI).
  • Minimum of 3 years in Account Management and/or as a revenue-carrying Customer Success Manager: We need you to have a proven track record of managing and growing partner relationships in a high-accountability, revenue-focused environment. This role requires persistence, strong communication, and the ability to navigate complex renewals, stakeholder management, and difficult conversations.
  • Strong Relationship Builder: Your primary responsibility will be building trusted relationships with schools, educators, counselors, and district leaders. You should be able to quickly establish credibility and maintain strong, long-term partnerships.
  • Familiarity with K-12 Education: You do not necessarily need to have been a classroom teacher, but preference will be given to candidates with 3–5 years of classroom experience in a K-12 public or charter school system.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with stakeholders at all levels, including executive-level district leaders.
  • Ability to engage audiences through presentations, trainings, implementation planning, and professional learning experiences.
  • Highly Organized: You will manage relationships across dozens of organizations and hundreds of stakeholders simultaneously. Strong organizational and operational management skills are critical.
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to independently solve problems, make decisions, and move work forward without heavy oversight.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-moving startup environment. Must be comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
  • Possess a problem-solving mindset and ability to navigate complex issues with professionalism, urgency, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to travel an average of 20–40% of the time, and up to 80% during peak Back-to-School season.
  • Purpose Alignment: This role should connect deeply to your own values, sense of purpose, and belief in supporting students, educators, and schools.
